National History
alpha Kappa Delta Phi was established at the University of California at Berkeley in the Fall of 1989 and recognized by the College Panhellenic Association on February 7, 1990. The founding sisters - Susan Kim, Fannie Pon, Jill Yoshimura, and Reina Yuan - dedicated themselves to establishing a strong and lasting organization which would provide Asian American women the opportunity to participate in the Greek system. Soon after being recognized by the College Panhellenic Association, the founding sisters brought together a diverse group of women who shared with them the goals of sisterhood, scholarship, and leadership. These ideals were to later set the foundation for alpha Kappa Delta Phi's purpose.

The love and generosity that each member had for the organization was instrumental to the growth of alpha Kappa Delta Phi's reputation as a sorority, as well as to the forging of unbreakable friendships. The sisterhood has since then spread to prominent university campuses across the country. To meet the needs of the growing sisterhood, the National Board of alpha Kappa Delta Phi was established in May of 1993 at the National Convention in Santa Barbara, California.

It is the sincere wish of the founding sisters that alpha Kappa Delta Phi continue to promote Asian Awareness in the community and leadership opportunities for women by providing each woman with the resources, unique sisterly support and understanding to achieve her goals in life.​

To continue the sisterhood after graduation, the National Alumnae Board of alpha Kappa Delta Phi was established in the Fall of 2002 under the initiation of the National Board Alumnae Chair, Sophia Yen, UC Berkeley alumna. The 2002-2003 National Alumnae Board then set the foundation for the establishment of the National Alumnae Association.
In the spring of 2005, an interest group for alpha Kappa Delta Phi Sorority Inc. at the University of South Florida began to develop. Co-founders Hisako Miyabayashi and Natalie Ekarohit believed that the university did not have a strong organization in which Asian American women could promote Asian Awareness, sisterhood, leadership, and service. Eventually this led to the creation of Sisters Who Inspire Through Charity & Heart (S.W.I.T.C.H.).
The beliefs and goals of alpha Kappa Delta Phi Sorority Inc. inspired the twelve founding sisters, Janice Aguinaldo, Lerissa Antonio, Carines Bantayan, Melissa Barrido, Angela Digamon, Vanessa Durano, Natalie Ekarohit, Hisako Miyabayashi, Amanda Morrison, Maria Ortiz, Nao Saito, and Stephanie Tong, to come together to change misconceptions of Asian American women at the university. By Spring 2006, S.W.I.T.C.H. had the privilege of having the full fledged Iota Chapter, University of Houston, as the host chapter for the USF colony. Pledge mom Kimberly So, provided guidance and support to the founding sisters to achieve their goals.
In Spring 2006, the lovely ladies of S.W.I.T.C.H. proudly became the 42nd chapter of alpha Kappa Delta Phi Sorority Inc. after strong dedication and commitment. Their hope is that the University of South Florida chapter will always strive to live by the sorority goals of sisterhood, scholarship, leadership and service.
Four years later, the sisters at the University of South Florida chapter continued to fulfill these sorority goals through their recognition onto the Unified Greek Council in 2006, recruiting forty-eight loyal sisters and leaders, and graduating eighteen Alumnae in various fields of study. As a result, the University of South Florida Colony Chapter was granted Associate Chapter status by the National Board at the 2010 National Convention held in San Francisco, California to acknowledge the sisters’ dedicated efforts. With encouragement from the chapter’s twelve founding sisters and the support of sisters nationwide, the chapter gratefully accepted the recognition.
Through determination, community support, and love for this sisterhood, the University of South Florida Associate Chapter was granted full-fledged status at the 2014 National Convention held in Orlando Florida, becoming the Alpha Alpha Chapter of alpha Kappa Delta Phi International Sorority, Inc. The University of South Florida Alpha Alpha Chapter continues to grow each day, touched by its past and dedicated to its future.
